Everyone I believe can have an addiction problem. They could easily get addicted to something, might be a certain candy they eat constantly, Mt. Dew, Tea, working out, alcohol, drugs, prescription pills....
Any addiction can be harmful in some way. You can so infatuated with it that you forget other things, your family, people that matter, your health, school.... you become a completely different person.
This past year my husband's 17 year old brother has been going down that path, we noticed at first but thought it was a phase, then he started losing weight and we knew he had to be doing something... In the last month he has been in trouble 4 times. Twice arrested, this last time was the straw, it was time for treatment. And he knew it...
He is now in treatment for the next 18 months.... I pray that it works, that I have my little brother in law back, my husband has his little bro back, my boys' get their uncle back.... Our oldest son looks up to him and we want that to be able to continue.
We use to have him almost every weekend, if not all weekend, at least after church every Sunday he went home with us. He went hunting with my hubs every year. As we had kids and other things came up, we stopped seeing him as often. I hate the saying Life got in the Way! But it did. I don't want to make excuses. But as he told my hubs that he didn't think we supported him or loved him, that broke my heart. We kinda had an idea of what was going on, and had to protect our children and us from it. But why didn't we protect him more.....
But he is where he needs to be now and we are truly thankful that he is and know that he needs help. I don't think he had much left in him to continue down the path he was going.
My heart is there for him and I am praying everyday that he gets better and becomes the man I know he is.
This week has been a long one to say the least...
